BlackBerry remains Canada’s most popular smartphone, for now
Canadians are still buying BlackBerrys more than any other smartphone, in stark contrast to the mobile whims of their southern neighbours.
Research In Motion Ltd. held 35.8% of the Canadian smartphone market in September, according to new data from market research firm comScore Inc., giving the Waterloo, Ont.-based BlackBerry maker the top spot in its home market. More than eight million Canadians owned a smartphone by early October, the report said, representing 40% of Canada’s mobile market… Read More

Canadians still love their BlackBerrys
Walk around any Canadian city and you’ll no doubt see people tapping on smartphones, reading e-books at cafés or swiping through a game of Angry Birds.
But what devices are we toting around, exactly? Ipsos Reid wanted to find out as part of its “Mobil-ology” study, conducted across Canada in January and August of 2011.
Despite Research in Motion’s high-profile troubles, BlackBerry is the no. 1 smartphone platform with 38 per cent market share in August, says Ipsos Reid. This number is down from 41 per cent in January, however. Apple now has a quarter of the market at 25 per cent, up two percentage points since January. Android-based devices – from the likes of Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola and Sony – collectively captured 27 per cent of the market in August (up 1 point from January)… Read More

Work-life balance: How can I have it all?
My job is extremely demanding. My BlackBerry is my best friend, the airport lounge my second home. I wish I could get more time with my family, but there is no way I can get out of the fast lane without getting pushed out of the race. At the same time, I feel like I am missing out on my kids’ childhood. Quality time has a hollow ring to it. How can I possibly have it all?
The bottom line is, you can’t have it all. Or as someone said “You can have it all, you just can’t have it all at the same time.” The only way to crack this nut is to step back and make some serious choices. What are your priorities? What is scary to you? Until you know the answer to these questions, your BlackBerry will keep competing, and winning, against your kids… Read More

RIM in tight with Washington
While its share of the U.S. consumer market continues to dwindle, Research In Motion Ltd. is shoring up its status as a key supplier of secure wireless technology to Washington.
RIM says the U.S. government has granted the BlackBerry Smart Card Reader advanced level security certification for use by federal employees and contractors, a move that follows Washington’s certification of RIM’s PlayBook tablet PC early this year… Read More
